Impact Industry Cacao - Update 25 - CACAO

WAY MORE CACAO THAN I THOUGHT

Impact Industry Cacao - Update 25 -
FIRST FARM FRIDAY

Our first Farm Friday was a smashing success, we pruned the trees which creates more air flow, adds mulch for the trees to feed on, and prevents disease. I’m learning how to be a farmer as I go… including the need to wear pants!

BUT we actually had more supply than I knew… look at our full wheelbarrow of cacao. This is getting turned into a second batch of chocolate.

One of the more exciting things is we have three types of cacaos on our farm:

  • Forastero - which is the more commercialized version grown commonly in Africa.

  • Trinatario - which is the native strand from the Caribbean that came out of Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Criollo - this one is actually one of the most desired types of chocolate (and most expensive) but hard to get to the economics to work as their trees are not as productive.

We even left some of the cacao on the trees.

How you can help:

NEW: if you know any chocolatiers could you send them my way?
